Bio
Derek Eggmolesse-Smith holds the distinction of being the first Next Generation Academy graduate to play senior football for Richmond, having progressed through the club's development pathways before being rookie drafted. A rebounding defender with a penetrating left boot, he offered dash and creativity from half-back, often looking to switch the angle of attack. While he demonstrated his quality at state league level by tying for the Tigers' VFL best and fairest in 2019, he struggled to secure a permanent spot in a settled, premiership-calibre defence. He was briefly delisted following the 2020 season before earning a reprieve via the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection, but after adding just a single game in 2021, his time at Punt Road came to an end.
