Bio
Drafted by the Gold Coast Suns with pick nine in the 2010 National Draft, Dion Prestia was a foundation player who quickly became a central figure in the expansion club's engine room. A product of the Calder Cannons, he served as vice-captain at the Suns and was admired for his professionalism, though he eventually sought a return to Victoria after six seasons without finals action. His high-profile trade to Richmond ahead of the 2017 season involved a significant exchange of draft capital, a move that proved to be a masterstroke as he immediately addressed the Tigers' need for midfield depth and two-way running.
At Punt Road, Prestia established himself as the linchpin of the Tigers' dynasty. A compact, explosive inside midfielder with elite endurance, his ability to win clearances and support the defence allowed teammates like Dustin Martin to play with greater freedom. He played a critical role in three premierships and was recognised individually with the Jack Dyer Medal in the 2019 premiership year. While his career has been frequently interrupted by soft-tissue injuries that required careful load management, Prestia remains a revered figure at the club, celebrated for his consistency and his pivotal role in one of Richmond's most successful eras.
