Bio
Born into one of the Pivot City's most distinguished footballing dynasties, Doug Rankin was the son of club legend Teddy and the younger half-brother of captains Cliff and Bert. Recruited from local side Guild Scouts, he entered the league with the weight of the Rankin name on his shoulders but quickly showed he belonged, notably booting three goals against North Melbourne in just his second senior appearance. Operating primarily as a forward, he appeared poised to continue the family tradition before a severe knee injury sustained early in the 1939 season derailed his progress. While his career was ultimately curtailed by that injury and his subsequent enlistment for service in the Second World War, he remains a piece of Geelong history as the third son of Teddy Rankin to don the hoops.
