Bio
Part of Geelong’s pioneering football family, Tom Rankin was the younger brother of club legend Teddy and an uncle to future premiership captains Cliff and Bert. Emerging from the local district to join his famous sibling at Corio Oval, he immediately established himself as a durable fixture in the senior lineup, barely missing a game across his first two campaigns. While he proved a reliable contributor capable of holding his own at the elite level, his promising career was effectively derailed by severe knee and kidney injuries sustained during a match in May 1905. Although he courageously returned to play out the 1906 season, the physical toll ultimately forced his premature retirement after just three years, leaving him as an unlucky but vital link in the Cats' most enduring dynasty.
