Bio
Recruited from Metung in East Gippsland alongside his brother Bruce, Eddie Lake arrived at Windy Hill as a precocious talent, making his senior debut at just 16 years of age. A courageous half-forward who could also rotate through the centre, Lake struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior side, often finding himself on the fringe of selection during his six seasons at the club. Despite limited opportunities at the top level, he was a standout performer in the lower grades, playing a key role in the 1968 reserves premiership and winning the reserves best and fairest in 1972. His fearless attack on the ball was recognised at senior level when he won the club's Most Courageous Player award in 1970. After departing Essendon, Lake carved out a successful career in the VFA with Coburg, where he tasted premiership success immediately, before moving north to become a prominent figure in Queensland football with Coorparoo and Southport.
