Family

Drafted as a father-son selection in 2019, Finn Maginness arrived at Hawthorn carrying the legacy of his father, dual premiership player Scott Maginness. After managing only a handful of games in his first two seasons, he reinvented himself under coach Sam Mitchell as a dedicated run-with player, becoming one of the competition's few remaining hard taggers during the early 2020s. This defensive pivot saw him claim several high-profile scalps, including notable shut-down roles on opposition stars like Nick Daicos and Josh Kelly, earning him a reputation for elite endurance and close checking. However, his career has been defined by a constant battle to retain his place in the senior side, as questions regarding his ball use and offensive impact often see him rotate through the VFL, leaving him fighting to establish himself as a permanent fixture in the Hawks' midfield rotation rather than a situational specialist.
