Family

Frank Hodgkin was a tough centre half-forward whose promising VFL career was cut short by the rise of a St Kilda legend. Hailing from Kergunyah and making his name with Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray league, Hodgkin arrived at Moorabbin in 1961 and immediately established a reputation for uncompromising physicality, famously trading punches with captain Neil Roberts during a pre-season practice match. He enjoyed a stellar debut season, playing in a semi-final and winning the club's Best First Year Player award, but found his long-term spot in the key forward posts blocked by the brilliance of the emerging Darrel Baldock. Opting to return to the country after just two seasons, Hodgkin became a bush football icon, playing over 400 senior games and coaching premierships across the Ovens & Murray and Riverina leagues.
