Bio
A diminutive rover recruited from Myrtleford in north-east Victoria, Gary Holmes managed seven senior games for St Kilda across the 1960 and 1961 seasons. Standing just 170cm, he battled to secure a regular spot in a Saints lineup that was gradually assembling the pieces for its future premiership assault. Following his brief stint at Junction Oval, Holmes returned to the bush and became a genuine star in the Ovens & King Football League. He enjoyed a decorated tenure with King Valley, where he played in a premiership side in 1970 and crowned his career by winning the Baker Medal as the league's best and fairest player in 1971.
