Bio
The son of former Hawthorn player Cecil Austen, Geoff Austen was a mobile ruckman recruited from Macleod-Rosanna who spent the majority of his VFL career toiling for Fitzroy. He became a familiar face at the Junction Oval throughout the 1970s, using his athleticism to cover the ground and compete in the air for a Lions outfit that often struggled for success. Austen crossed to Collingwood in 1979, where he primarily played a supporting role to Brownlow Medallist Peter Moore as the Magpies pushed toward finals contention. Although his senior opportunities at Victoria Park were limited, he famously booted four goals in the club's 1979 Night Series Grand Final victory before finishing his career as a star in the VFA, where he won the J.J. Liston Trophy with Preston.
