Bio
A tough and courageous defender who continued a proud family legacy at Melbourne, Geoff Collins was the son of 1926 premiership player Jack Collins. Establishing himself on a half-back flank, he played a pivotal role in the Demons' 1948 premiership triumph after initially seeking a clearance to Yallourn during the pre-season. His career was uniquely interrupted by military service in 1953, during which he flew 100 combat missions as a fighter pilot in the Korean War with a Demon logo painted on his jet. Collins returned to the MCG in 1954 to captain the club in his final VFL season, leading the side to a Grand Final appearance before retiring at just 28 to coach in the Gippsland league.
