Stats
Bio
Recruited from CBC St Kilda where he had captained the St Kevin's college side, Jack Collins established himself as a versatile and reliable contributor for Melbourne during the 1920s. He initially broke into the side as a pacy wingman, using his speed to break lines and drive the team forward, a role that proved pivotal during the club's 1926 premiership campaign. As his career progressed, Collins successfully transitioned into defence, settling on a half-back flank where he was lauded for his dependability and reading of the play.
His standing in the game was recognised with selection for the Victorian 'B' side in 1929, but knee injuries unfortunately curtailed his time at the top level, forcing him to miss the entire 1932 season and effectively ending his VFL career. After leaving Melbourne, he moved to the country to serve as captain-coach for Ballarat Imperials. The Collins name remained prominent at the Demons long after his retirement, with his sons Mike and Geoff both donning the red and blue, the latter eventually captaining the club in the 1954 Grand Final.
