Bio
Arriving from Stawell in country Victoria, George Grainger was a left-footed half-back who briefly broke into the St Kilda lineup during the wartime season of 1944. He managed just two senior appearances for the club, featuring in a victory over Footscray, but struggled to hold a regular spot in the side. Although his own VFL career was short-lived before he returned to local football, his contribution to the game extended to the next generation, with his son Gary Grainger going on to play 30 games for Essendon in the 1970s.
