Stats
Bio
Recruited from Eaglehawk in the Bendigo Football League, George Ilsley was a reluctant city footballer whose heart remained firmly in the country. Standing just 174cm, he was paradoxically a dominant centre half-forward at local level known for his high flying and contested marking, though he lined up on the wing for his brief VFL stint. After trialling in the reserves in 1953, he played just two senior games for the Blues in early 1954—booting a goal on debut against South Melbourne—before his dissatisfaction with city life saw him return home mid-season. While his time at Princes Park was fleeting, Ilsley became a bona fide legend of country football, playing over 350 games for Eaglehawk, captain-coaching the club, and eventually having their Best and Fairest medal named in his honour.
