Bio
Recruited from the strong Eaglehawk Football Club in the Bendigo league, Robert "Ike" Ilsley was a powerfully built utility who earned a brief trial with St Kilda during the club's developmental phase in the early 1960s. Standing 185cm and weighing 94kg, he possessed a significantly heavier frame than most of his contemporaries, providing a raw physical presence that the Saints hoped to utilise against hardening opposition. He broke into the senior lineup midway through the 1962 season, making his debut against Collingwood and playing the following week, but was unable to retain his spot in a side that was beginning to feature future premiership stars like Darrel Baldock and Ian Synman. His VFL tenure was ultimately restricted to those two matches, after which he departed the Junction Oval and returned to country football, leaving a footprint as a robust but fleeting figure in St Kilda history.
