Bio
Hailing from Narrandera in the Riverina, George Pattinson was a versatile big man who found his way to Essendon after an initial signing with Melbourne yielded no senior games. The son of former St Kilda player Artie Pattinson, he made his name as a capable utility, effectively influencing the contest from half-forward, holding the fort at half-back, or taking a turn in the ruck. His tenure at Windy Hill was marked by resilience, as he overcame a serious arm injury in the late 1930s and played a dominant season with Williamstown in the VFA—winning their Best Utility award in 1941—before earning a recall to the Bombers. Although he contributed to Essendon’s 1942 premiership season, he missed out on the Grand Final side, and his league career was ultimately cut short by service with the RAAF during World War II.
