Bio
Recruited from Wesley College, Gilbert Barker was a vital component of Fitzroy’s powerhouse lineup in the early 1900s, quickly cementing his place as a dual premiership player. He featured on a half-forward flank in the Maroons' 1904 Grand Final victory and transitioned into the midfield to help secure back-to-back flags in 1905. However, Barker’s football journey was heavily influenced by his medical aspirations; after leaving Fitzroy at the end of 1906, he returned to the league in 1908 to play for the newly admitted University Football Club. His time with the Students was limited to just six games, as he graduated mid-season and promptly hung up the boots to move to Perth, where he enjoyed a long career as a surgeon.
