Bio
Recruited from Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL, Glenn Freeborn made an immediate impact at North Melbourne as a versatile utility who could rotate through the midfield and forward line. His time at Arden Street is defined almost exclusively by his match-turning cameo in the 1996 Grand Final; with the Kangaroos trailing Sydney in the second quarter, Freeborn seized the moment, booting three goals in quick succession to break the game open and help deliver the premiership. Despite this heroics, the fierce competition for spots in North’s powerhouse lineup saw him seek greater opportunity, eventually requesting a trade to Collingwood.
At Collingwood, Freeborn evolved from an opportunist forward into a disciplined role player, often utilized as a tagger or defensive forward under Mick Malthouse. He became a fixture in the Magpies' resurgence, offering grit and experience to a young list rebuilding toward contention. His ability to execute specific shutdown roles saw him feature in another premiership decider in 2002, where he played his part in the Magpies' narrow loss to Brisbane. Freeborn retired as a respected journeyman who maximized his natural ability through hard work and defensive application.
