Bio
The son of former Demon Tom McLean, Glenn McLean was a 194cm ruckman recruited from Sandringham in the VFA who became the centre of a high-profile clearance dispute in 1984. After breaking into the Melbourne side as a regular in 1982 following injuries to Garry Baker, he produced a standout 1983 campaign, playing every game and finishing fifth in the best and fairest alongside star recruit Peter Moore. His time at the Demons ended in acrimony early the following season when Collingwood discovered he was playing without a binding contract and lured him to Victoria Park. The resulting legal battle saw Melbourne issue a Supreme Court writ, forcing McLean to sit out of senior football until a mid-year trade involving Tony Keenan was brokered. The move proved anticlimactic, as McLean played just two games for the Magpies before being swept out of the club during its financial purge in early 1986.
