Bio
Arriving at Fitzroy with strong family ties as the son of former Lion Des Calverley, Graham Calverley was recruited from St Joseph’s College in East Brunswick. After serving an apprenticeship in the reserves throughout 1963 and 1964, he broke into the senior side for the opening round of the 1965 season against Essendon. A lightly-built but capable 183cm utility, he played 10 games and kicked five goals in his solitary VFL season, often operating as a flanker. Following his stint at the Brunswick Street Oval, he transferred to Northcote in the VFA for two seasons before later coaching University Blues in the VAFA. His legacy at the club was maintained by his brother, Ray Calverley, who debuted for the Lions the year after Graham’s departure.
