Bio
Recruited from Murtoa in the Wimmera district, Hugh Delahunty arrived at Essendon as a tall, mobile ruckman capable of drifting forward to hit the scoreboard. He broke into the senior side in 1971 and became a regular fixture for the Bombers over three seasons, utilising his height and strong marking ability to compete in the air. Despite establishing himself as a consistent contributor at VFL level, Delahunty opted to cut his tenure at Windy Hill short, retiring from the league after the 1973 season to return to his family's farming interests in western Victoria. He remained a significant figure in country football before eventually transitioning into a high-profile political career, which included serving as the Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation.
