Bio
Hailing from the prolific football nursery of the Wimmera, Michael "Mick" Delahunty arrived at Victoria Park from Murtoa via Monivae College. Although originally zoned to Essendon—where his older brother Hugh would carve out a successful career—Mick signed with Collingwood, making an immediate impact in his debut 1971 season which included a finals appearance and a memorable draw against his brother's Bombers. A rugged and diligent defender, his time in the VFL was often punctuated by interruption; a broken leg ended his 1972 campaign in Round 9, while a significant four-week suspension for striking Fitzroy captain John Murphy stalled his momentum in 1973. Despite fighting his way back to feature in the Magpies' 1974 finals campaign, he could not hold his spot the following year and left the VFL to return to Murtoa, where he cemented his legacy as a premiership player in the Wimmera Football League.
