Bio
Selected by St Kilda with pick 21 in the 2014 National Draft, Hugh Goddard arrived at the Saints carrying the weight of a famous surname as the cousin of club great Brendon Goddard. A tall key position prospect capable of playing at either end of the ground, he was primarily developed as an intercepting key defender. After a promising debut season in 2015, his progress at Moorabbin was severely derailed by a ruptured Achilles in 2016, an injury that kept him sidelined for an extended period and restricted him to just ten games over four years. Following his delisting by St Kilda, he was thrown a lifeline by Carlton in the 2019 Rookie Draft to shore up their defensive stocks. However, despite consistent form at VFL level, Goddard managed only two senior appearances for the Blues before being delisted at the end of 2020, his career ultimately curtailed by the long-term impact of his early injuries.
