Bio
Born in the rugby league heartland of Kyogle, New South Wales, Ian Fleming moved to Melbourne as a child and developed into a standout sportsman at Scotch College, where he famously set school cricket records. He was recruited to Fitzroy in 1931, distinguishing himself as the most durable member of the famous "Fleming clan" at the club, which included his twin brother Keith and older brother Frank. A versatile half-forward capable of pushing up the ground, Fleming utilised the balance and athleticism from his cricket background to become a consistent contributor for the Maroons. While his brothers played only a handful of senior matches, Ian held his spot in the first XVIII for five seasons, acting as a reliable avenue to goal for a Fitzroy side that remained competitive but frequently finished just outside the finals during his tenure.
