Stats
Bio
Recruited from the local Fitzroy Sub-Districts, Jack Collins was a speedy left-footer who made an immediate impact at Brunswick Street with a seven-goal haul against St Kilda in his debut season. While he began his career as a goal-kicking utility capable of finding the sticks, he is best remembered as a dashing wingman whose powerful kicking and swerving runs generated significant drive. Despite a promising start with the Lions, Collins crossed to Essendon for the 1950 season, where he cemented a spot on the wing in the club's premiership side that same year. His time at Windy Hill was fleeting; following a disagreement with the club hierarchy, he departed after just one season to captain-coach Finley in New South Wales. Collins later saw his footballing legacy continue through his sons, with Denis playing over 100 VFL games for Footscray, Carlton, and Richmond.
