Stats
Bio
A talented dual-sportsman, Jack Francis was a local product who first appeared for Hawthorn in the VFA as a 15-year-old schoolboy from Melbourne High. He returned for the club's second VFL season in 1926, making a notable senior debut by booting two goals against Collingwood while playing alongside his uncle, Jim Jackson. Despite a promising return of eight majors in just six games—indicating significant potential as a scoring forward in a struggling side—Francis ultimately prioritised cricket over football. He walked away from the VFL to become a First Class opening batsman for Victoria, though his footballing legacy continued through his younger brothers, Jim and Syd, who both carved out their own League careers.
