Bio
Recruited from Corryong in the Upper Murray, Jack Greenhill’s path to League football was paved by his enlistment in the First World War, arriving at Princes Park via the Maribyrnong artillery camp. A sturdy and reliable half-back, he showed immediate promise upon his 1917 debut but was forced to put his career on hold to serve overseas with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade. He returned to Carlton in 1920 and quickly re-established himself as a key defender, earning selection for Victoria at the 1921 Perth Carnival. His career is often remembered for a dramatic incident in the 1921 Grand Final against Richmond, where he was knocked out behind play by Donald Don—an act that controversially went unnoticed by umpires on the day but later resulted in a hefty suspension for the Tiger.
