Family

Recruited from Cobram after topping the Goulburn Valley goalkicking table, Jack Huggard was a clever forward who relied on guile rather than the brute force typical of his era. The younger brother of rugged Richmond defender Frank Huggard, Jack was a lightly built full-forward and centre half-forward known for his elusive leading patterns and deceptively strong marking. He made an immediate impact at Punt Road, booting five goals on debut against South Melbourne in 1925, and later managed a career-high haul of seven majors against Fitzroy. Despite his promise, Huggard's VFL career was cut short by a severe kidney injury after just three seasons, though he continued to contribute to the game as a captain-coach for Benalla and briefly with Camberwell in the VFA.
