Bio
Hailing from the famous wine region of Rutherglen, Jack King was a blistering speedster from a gifted sporting family that included his brother Jim, a fellow St Kilda player, and Chris, a Stawell Gift champion. Recruited to the Saints in 1904, King brought his professional sprinting background to the VFL for a single season, utilising his raw pace in eight senior appearances before returning to the bush. While his time at the elite level was fleeting, his legacy in country football was monumental; he went on to play an incredible 26 seasons in the Ovens & Murray Football League, featuring in 11 premierships for Rutherglen, and later established himself as a master athletics coach who mentored four Stawell Gift winners.
