Bio
Already a seasoned campaigner from Rutherglen when he arrived at South Melbourne in 1902, Jim King was a mature-age recruit who made his VFL debut at the relatively late age of 28. A member of a prestigious sporting family—his brother Chris was a celebrated Stawell Gift champion—King was a durable follower who relied on his physical maturity and country-football experience to contest the ball in heavy traffic. After two seasons at the Lakeside Oval, he transferred to St Kilda in 1904, a move that united him with his brother Jack in the Saints' lineup for the final two years of his career. Although his time at the elite level was brief, King served as a reliable, heavy-bodied presence in the midfield contests before retiring to the land, where he tragically died in an accident in 1929.
