Bio
Recruited from the Geelong Falcons with pick 51 in the 2014 National Draft, Jackson Nelson arrived at West Coast as a competitive defensive prospect. He made an immediate impression by debuting in Round 1 of the 2015 season, playing 11 games in a Grand Final year, though he did not feature in the finals campaign. For much of his tenure, Nelson operated as a fringe player fighting for a spot in a star-studded backline, often serving as a depth option during the club's successful era, including the 2018 premiership season where he played 10 matches but missed selection for September action.
Nelson eventually carved out a specific role as a lockdown defender and run-with player, often tasked with tagging duties against damaging opposition midfielders or small forwards. While his tenacity and defensive application were valued internally, he faced external scrutiny regarding his consistency and disposal efficiency. Despite these challenges, his resilience saw him notch his 100th AFL game in 2022, shortly before he was delisted at the end of the season as the Eagles looked to regenerate their list.
