Family

Recruited by Hawthorn, Jade Rawlings established himself as a reliable key defender known for his strong overhead marking and ability to read the play. For much of his time at Glenferrie Oval he acted as a defensive pillar, but a strategic move to the forward line in 2003 showcased his versatility. He flourished as a swingman, proving he could impact the scoreboard as well as quell opposition attacks, a run of form that significantly raised his market value and attracted aggressive interest from rival clubs.

Rawlings' departure from the Hawks became one of the more high-profile trade stories of the era. Although he requested a move to North Melbourne to play alongside his brother Brady, the deal could not be brokered, and he eventually crossed to the Western Bulldogs on a substantial contract. His stint at the Whitten Oval was frustrated by persistent knee injuries that limited his continuity and output. He was eventually traded to North Melbourne for his final season in 2006, finally fulfilling his desire to wear the blue and white stripes with his sibling before his body forced him into retirement and a transition into coaching.
