Bio
Recruited from Foster in country Victoria, Jamie Duursma established himself as a distinct football journeyman of the 1980s, becoming one of the rare players to represent four different VFL/AFL clubs. Starting his career on the fringe of a dominant Hawthorn lineup, the rugged defender sought greater opportunity with a move to Sydney before joining the Brisbane Bears for their inaugural season in 1987. He eventually settled at Melbourne, where his contribution is most vividly remembered for a brutal collision with Fitzroy's Alastair Lynch in the 1988 Preliminary Final, an incident he recovered from sufficiently to take the field in the Grand Final the following week. While his time at the top level was often fragmented by transfers and injury, the Duursma name remains prominent in the modern game through his nephew, Essendon midfielder Xavier Duursma.
