Bio
Recruited from the Gippsland Power with pick 18 in the 2018 National Draft, Xavier Duursma made an immediate impression at Port Adelaide as part of a heralded draft class alongside Connor Rozee and Zak Butters. A hard-running winger known for his elite endurance and courage to fly back with the flight of the ball, he became a fixture in the Power line-up early in his career, often punctuating his goals with a signature bow-and-arrow celebration. Despite a promising start, Duursma's time at Alberton was eventually hampered by significant collarbone and knee injuries, which affected his continuity and saw him drift in and out of the senior side in his final seasons.
Seeking to revitalise his career, Duursma requested a trade to Essendon following the 2023 season, crossing to the Bombers in a deal involving Brandon Zerk-Thatcher. The move provided the fresh start he required, and he quickly secured a spot on the wing at his new club, tasked with providing two-way run and connecting play between the arcs. Now a regular figure in the Essendon line-up, Duursma remains focused on recapturing his best form and delivering on the high potential he displayed as a teenager.
