Bio
Recruited from the Calder Cannons via the 2005 Rookie Draft, Jesse Smith was a hard-at-it midfielder whose brief AFL career was marred by a horrific gym accident. During the 2006 pre-season, he tore his pectoral muscle from the bone while bench pressing, a setback that derailed his campaign and required significant rehabilitation. Smith recovered late in the year to earn a promotion to the senior list, playing two consecutive games from Round 20, but was unable to retain his spot and was delisted at the season's end. The cousin of Essendon utility Andrew Welsh, Smith continued his football journey in the SANFL with West Adelaide before returning to local leagues in Victoria.
