Bio
Born in Florina, Greece, Jim Christou was a tenacious rover recruited from Heidelberg after winning a Diamond Valley Football League best and fairest. Despite his obvious talent, Christou struggled to cement a regular spot in the Lions' senior 22, playing just 30 games across five seasons—a tenure that briefly saw him line up alongside his younger brother, John. Frustrated by limited opportunities in 1976, he requested a clearance to North Melbourne, but when Fitzroy blocked the move, Christou defected to the VFA mid-season without a permit. He found immediate sanctuary at Port Melbourne, where he became a central figure in the Borough's golden era, eventually playing in four premiership sides and later captaining Northcote to a Division 2 flag.
