Stats
Bio
Recruited from South Ballarat after a stint as captain-coach of Yarraville in the VFA, Jim Collins arrived at Essendon in 1919 as a mature-age centreman. He broke into the side in Round 6 against Geelong and held his spot for the remainder of the season, establishing himself as a reliable midfield presence in the immediate post-war era. However, Collins struggled to maintain a permanent place in the starting lineup over the subsequent two seasons, eventually departing the club at the end of 1921. He continued his football journey as a captain-coach for South Ballarat and later Kingsville, but his greatest contribution to the game ultimately came through his family tree; he was the father of three Footscray players, most notably the legendary Bulldogs goalkicker and captain Jack Collins.
