Bio
Recruited from local side the Essendon All Blacks, Jim Heenan was the son of former North Melbourne player Jim Heenan Sr. He made an immediate impact at Windy Hill, winning the club’s Best First Year Player award in 1952 and polling seven Brownlow votes in a standout debut season. A tough and reliable back pocket defender, his momentum was stalled by a serious injury early in 1953 that wiped out his year, but he returned to become a defensive staple for the Bombers throughout the mid-1950s. Heenan’s career at Essendon culminated in the 1957 Grand Final, where he started on the bench during the loss to Melbourne, before he eventually transferred to North Melbourne where he retired without adding to his senior game tally.
