Bio
The grandson of Essendon legend Dick Reynolds, Joel Reynolds arrived at Windy Hill with a famous surname and significant expectations after being selected with pick 31 in the 2001 National Draft. A speedy left-footed utility capable of playing off a half-back flank or wing, Reynolds possessed genuine athletic gifts, including elite pace and a strong overhead mark for his lighter frame. However, his five seasons with the Bombers were defined by frustration as he battled a relentless run of setbacks, including osteitis pubis, glandular fever, and soft tissue concerns. Delisted by Essendon at the end of 2006, he was handed a lifeline by his hometown club, Geelong, via the rookie draft. Tragically, his luck did not turn; a torn ACL during a pre-season practice match wiped out his entire 2007 campaign, and he was delisted without playing a senior game for the Cats, leaving his career as a case of potential derailed by persistent injury.
