Bio
Recruited from the Prahran Dragons with pick 80 in the 1997 National Draft, John Hynes was a competitive utility who faced the perennial challenge of playing as an undersized key position prospect. Standing at just 184cm, he was often tasked with punching above his weight division against larger opponents, yet he showed enough promise to earn a senior debut late in the 1998 season. While restricted to just four AFL games, his dominance at the state league level was evident when he claimed the Carlton Reserves Best and Fairest award that same year. Unable to break into the senior lineup throughout 1999, he was delisted and eventually moved to the VFL with Frankston, though the Hynes name recently returned to the elite level when his son, Cooper, was drafted by the Western Bulldogs.
