Originally drafted by Port Adelaide with pick 70 in the 2005 National Draft, South Australian ruckman Jonathan Giles spent four seasons on the Power's list without registering a senior debut, stuck behind established premiership duo Brendon Lade and Dean Brogan. His career was resurrected by Greater Western Sydney, who recruited him from the SANFL as a foundation player ahead of their entry into the AFL. Giles played his best football with the Giants, finishing equal second in the club's inaugural Kevin Sheedy Medal and establishing himself as a physically imposing ruckman who could drift forward to impact the scoreboard. However, the high-profile recruitment of Shane Mumford eventually squeezed him out of the best 22, leading to a trade to Essendon where he struggled to cement a spot. A final move to West Coast provided a late-career lifeline, where he served as valuable depth following Nic Naitanui's ACL injury—notably playing in the 2016 Elimination Final—before a degenerative knee condition forced his retirement after stints at four separate clubs.
