Bio
Originally recruited by Collingwood via a trade with Gold Coast, Jonathon Ceglar spent two seasons on the Magpies' list without breaking into the senior side before being delisted. Handed a lifeline by Hawthorn in the rookie draft, the aggressive ruckman forged a respectable career at Waverley Park, evolving into a mobile big man capable of drifting forward to take contested marks and impact the scoreboard. His time in brown and gold was often defined by a battle for the number one mantle against the likes of Ben McEvoy and David Hale, as well as a devastating ACL injury late in 2016 that sidelined him for a significant period.
While he established himself as a key structural piece for the Hawks during their post-premiership era, particularly during a strong 2019 campaign, the club's focus on youth saw him traded to Geelong ahead of the 2022 season. Intended to provide experienced ruck support for the Cats' premiership push, his tenure at Kardinia Park was frustrated by persistent injury setbacks and strong competition for spots. He managed limited appearances for Geelong before announcing his immediate retirement late in the 2023 season, concluding his career as a resilient journeyman who maximized his second chance at AFL level.
