Bio
Selected with pick 7 in the 2021 National Draft, Josh Ward fulfilled a childhood dream by joining Hawthorn, the club his great-grandfather Alex Wilson had represented decades earlier. A hard-running left-footed midfielder capable of playing both on the wing and at the contest, Ward is distinguished by his elite endurance base and ability to link up play between the arcs. He entered the system during a significant rebuilding phase under Sam Mitchell and was immediately exposed to senior football, though his initial development was occasionally interrupted by injury and the challenge of cementing a consistent role within a deepening midfield rotation. Approaching the 2026 season with substantial experience under his belt, Ward has evolved into a key transition player, utilising his aerobic capacity to provide crucial outside balance to the Hawks' contested ball-winners.
