Emerging from the Oakleigh Chargers, he wasted little time adapting to the pace of AFL football, cementing a spot in the senior side during his debut season and earning selection in the 22under22 team. A prototype modern utility, Weddle is best known for his rebounding work off half-back and his ability to break lines with speed, though he has frequently demonstrated the tank to play on a wing or drift forward to impact the scoreboard. A key component of Sam Mitchell's tactical setup, he has developed into a reliable defensive staple who provides the essential run and carry that drives the Hawks' transition from defence to attack.
