Family

Selected with the second pick in the 2000 National Draft, Justin Koschitzke arrived at St Kilda alongside number one pick Nick Riewoldt, forming the structural pillars of the club's rebuild. The Murray Bushrangers product made an immediate impact, claiming the 2001 AFL Rising Star award in his debut season. A versatile key position player capable of splitting time between the forward line and the ruck, Koschitzke was renowned for his contested marking ability and physical presence. At his absolute peak, particularly during a dominant stretch in 2005, he proved capable of tearing games apart, though he often battled to maintain that output over long periods compared to his more consistent captain.

His career narrative was heavily defined by resilience in the face of significant setbacks, including a fractured skull and various soft tissue injuries that frequently interrupted his momentum. Despite these challenges, he remained a vital component of the Saints' lineup during their premiership window, playing in both the 2009 and 2010 Grand Final series. A loyal one-club servant, he retired at the conclusion of the 2013 season, finishing his time at Moorabbin stranded on 199 senior games.
