Bio
A skilled wingman and creative half-forward, Justin Pickering was recruited from Glen Waverley and worked his way through the Richmond Under 19s and Reserves before joining his older brother Michael in the senior side. He burst onto the scene with a spectacular debut season in 1988, playing 22 games and kicking 25 goals to win the VFL Recruit of the Year award and finish third in the club's Best and Fairest count. Renowned for his precise foot skills and ability to hit the scoreboard, he notably booted two five-goal hauls during his rookie campaign. Despite this rapid rise, recurring back injuries and a loss of form hampered his progress over the next three years, restricting his output as the Tigers struggled. Delisted by Richmond, he was thrown a lifeline by Footscray with selection 58 in the 1991 National Draft but failed to break into the senior team, spending the 1992 season in the reserves before finishing his career in the VFA.
