Bio
Selected by North Melbourne with pick 12 in the 2016 National Draft, Jy Simpkin arrived at Arden Street from the Murray Bushrangers after a draft year interrupted by a broken leg. Initially deployed as a crafty high half-forward capable of hitting the scoreboard, Simpkin steadily built his aerobic capacity to transition into a full-time midfield role. His ability to navigate heavy traffic with elite agility and evasive skills soon established him as a prime mover in the Kangaroos' engine room, where he became known for his clearance work and link-up play.
Simpkin's consistency and drive were recognised with back-to-back Syd Barker Medals in 2021 and 2022, marking him as one of the club's elite performers during a significant rebuilding phase. Ahead of the 2023 season, he was appointed co-captain alongside Luke McDonald, tasked with leading a young list back up the ladder. As a senior leader and Indigenous role model, Simpkin remains a vital piece of North Melbourne's long-term structure, balancing contested grunt with outside polish as the club looks to return to finals contention.
