Recruited from Border United in the Ovens & Murray Football League, Keith Williams arrived at Fitzroy with a formidable reputation as the reigning Morris Medallist. A powerfully built follower standing 187cm, he immediately cemented his place in the Lions' lineup, playing 18 consecutive games in his debut season and proving to be a durable and consistent ball-winner. Despite a promising start to his VFL career, his tenure in Melbourne was cut short after just one year when farming and business commitments drew him back to the country. Williams returned to the O&MFL as a captain-coach for Rutherglen and later Corowa, forging a distinguished regional legacy that extends to the modern era through his grandson, premiership coach John Longmire.
