Bio
Recruited from Williamstown, Ken Barnes was a towering ruckman who followed in the footsteps of his father, dual-sportsman Jack Barnes, to play for South Melbourne. Standing at a formidable 193cm, he broke into the senior lineup in 1964 but found it difficult to cement a regular spot in the top flight, managing 15 games over four seasons at the Lakeside Oval. While his VFL career was brief, Barnes returned to Williamstown to become a club legend, eventually captaining the Seagulls, playing in their 1969 premiership side, and earning selection as the first ruck in their Team of the Decade.
