Bio
A second-generation Demon, Ken Emselle followed his father Richie to the club and progressed through the thirds to establish himself as a lively rover and crumbing forward. While often playing in the shadow of the club's higher-profile small men, he carved out a vital niche as a goal-kicking rotation option, notably coming off the bench during the dying stages of Melbourne's dramatic 1964 Grand Final victory over Collingwood. He remained a senior regular until a severe knee injury wiped out his entire 1968 campaign, effectively stalling his momentum at the top level. Emselle finished his VFL tenure by captaining the reserves to a flag and winning the Gardiner Medal in 1969, later crossing to the VFA where he became a premiership captain and dual Best and Fairest winner with Prahran.
