Bio
Recruited from Prince's Hill, Richie Emselle established himself as a permanent fixture in Melbourne's backline during the club's golden era under Frank 'Checkers' Hughes. Standing just 170cm, he was a tenacious back pocket who relied on pace and determination to quell opposition small forwards. Emselle's career is defined by his integral role in the Demons' historic premiership hat-trick, featuring in the 1939, 1940, and 1941 Grand Final victories. His VFL journey was effectively curtailed by the Second World War; he enlisted in the RAAF and played his final game in 1943, retiring as a three-time premiership player after 92 senior appearances.
